So, Kirishima has to go 5-0 to retain Ozeki status. Takakeisho has to go 4-1 to do the same.

Wow, we could be down to one Ozeki for the next tournament. And no one at the Sekiwake rank is better than 6-4.

I do hope that Terunofuji does not retire -- that would leave a large gap at the top. Zero Yokozuna, (possibly) one Ozeki?

We'd have two ozeki in this case with Hoshoryu and Kotozakura. I wonder if the JSA will relax conditions to promote a yokozuna if and when Terunofuji leaves and we are left with none.

Wow, I can't even count Ozeki. Thanks for the correction.

I cannot remember the Yokozuka conditions ever being relaxed, but my memory is by no means definitive.

I don't know if Kirishima was going for that double inside grip, but that's death against Teru. At this point I'm rooting for the big guy to get his 10th. I think only Kotozakura has a chance against him.

I knew that Wakatakakage/Midorifuji match would be fast, but wow! I think luck went Waka's way that he didn't fall when he slipped.

Really amazed and happy to see Shodai doing so well! He's actually attacking instead of reacting.

This has been a great tournament for Shodai. He's shown a lot more urgency than usual. It's been great to see. If only Nishikigi could muster up something similar.

Good analysis! I'm thinking Oonosato will bounce back stronger than ever at the next tournament. He seems a step behind strategically against quick and experienced opponents but it's all a learning experience.

I agree. This feels like a 'let down game' you see in other sports, like basketball and baseball. Where a team has an amazing performance and then lose poorly in the very next game.

Day 10 observations. Kagayaki has such a strange tachi-ai. Just bends at the waist essentially. Lots of slip in this tournament. Definitely been interesting to see how much the heat affects the matches. That face Atamifuji made Gonoyama flew off the Dohyo at him was fantastic. My man double boob had a fantastic match and got the win. Poor Onosato, things are still not going his way.

Kagayaki does have a weird, squat, yeah. In a few bouts it's looked like he has just leaned into his opponents as opposed to spring into them off the tachiai.

I think the records are fine in the results display, but the rankings make it too cluttered.

Yeah, I agree.
