Day 5 is in the books. It’s still early, but a leading pack of challengers is beginning to take shape. And most of them feel like they have the calibre to hang in until the business end of this basho.
More great bouts this day. I especially enjoyed Gonoyama vs. Hoshoryu (because of the backstory and what happened last time they faced).
We also had Terunofuji vs. Hokutofuji. In the last tournament Hokutofuji looked hurt and somewhat disinterested. This tournament he’s been back to his exuberant and chaotic best, so it was fun to see him go against the yokozuna.
Wakamotoharu vs. Daieisho was a lot of fun, too. An under the radar bout that I really enjoyed was Tamawashi vs. Mitakeumi.
