We’re so close to the end now and I am still on the edge of my seat, not knowing who is going to take this thing (I know who I want to, though).
Day 13 gave us Terunofuji vs. Kotonowaka and Krishima vs. Hoshoryu. Given everyone’s records, there’s no way for anyone to be outright eliminated here, but wins give each guy a much easier path to the cup.
As expected the Kirishima and Hoshoryu duel was fascinating and very high-level. You’ll want to watch that replay back over and over again. I can’t wait to break that one down in the premium posts I’ll be doing after the tournament is over.
Outside of those two big match-ups, we also got the all-chaos bout of Tobizaru vs. Ura and a fun mirror match-up with Ichiyamamoto vs. Abi. Asanoyama also returned from injury on Day 13. He took on Gonoyama.
You can check out all the results, and my analysis, over on Bloody Elbow now. (link)
Bonus gif today is Asanoyama. I’m not sure if he would still be in contention at this point in the tournament if he hadn’t rolled his ankle (he’s struggled against elites since returning to makuuchi). But I wish we could have watched to find out.
