Day 10 is done and dusted. And on this day the matchmakers sought for clarity atop the leaderboard, pitting Kotonowaka vs. Onosato and Kirishima vs. Onosho. I enjoyed both those bouts a lot.
You can check out who won them, and read my analysis, over on Bloody Elbow now. (link)
We’re at my favourite point in the basho, where there really is nowhere to hide. It’s time for everyone to prove that they’re worth their eight or seven wins, as they are matched against fellow high fliers.
This tournament we’re also seeing a lot of wrestlers fighting for their kachi-koshi early on. A big chunk of the division is already sitting on seven or six losses.
On Day 10, we even had a pseudo Darwin match with Midorifuji vs. Ura. There are a couple more of those scheduled for tomorrow.
Outside of the bouts I’ve already mentioned, my favourite contest was Tamawashi vs. Atamifuji (a real youth versus experience match-up).
Bonus gif today is this beautiful bird’s eye replay of Gonoyama vs. Daieisho on Day 1.
