Lordy, lordy, lordy, the sumo gods have blessed us with an epic tournament this month (perhaps to make up for that injury hit January basho).
You can see all the results, along with my analysis and highlights up on The Fight Site now. (link)
The overarching narratives of this tournament are sensational and I won’t dive too much into those here (no spoilers, remember). But every single day we are getting great matches up and down the banzuke.
Now we are well into crunch time, you need to see the matches involving our potential championship winners. There was Takerufuji vs. Kotonowaka, Onosato vs. Takakeisho and Hoshoryu vs. Daieisho. The last of those was especially exciting.
Outside of those, though, Tobizaru vs. Meisei was a lot of fun. Both those guys have had their fair share of wild bouts this tournament and they didn’t disappoint when they got to share the spotlight.
Other bouts I think are especially worth your time are Atamifuji vs. Ura, Hiradoumi vs. Onosho and Tamawashi vs. Ryuden.
Bonus gif today is Hoshoryu from Day 9 (after he got tricked by the Little Green Giant).
Am I getting carried away thinking we may well see a Zensho Yusho?
That grin had “respect” written all over it.
Days away from a break in to a club that hasn’t seen a new member in 100-plus-years. It’s a great time to be a sumo fan.
